The opening of Bar Rouge in November 2004 a top Bund 18 announced a new era in Shanghai nightlife. Conceived as a top-notch fashionable entertainment venue in Shanghai, it exceeded all expectations by rapidly becoming the undisputedly hottest nightspot in the city. With expert top bartenders brought in from France, striking interiors and the hottest DJs in town, Bar Rouge is the place for a night out in Shanghai.
This three-story club is impossible to miss thanks to its brightly lit exterior. The bottom floor has a more loungey feel, the top is for VIPs, while the middle is where most clubbers end up. As expected of a Chinese club, tables with champagne crowd the club and dancers put on shows on a stage that rises up out of the dancefloor. Busy, and popular with both locals and foreigners. Local and international cards accepted.
Following footsteps of its enormously successful sibling-- Muse, the excellent drinks and energetic, crowd-pleasing mixer offers a distinctive scene.
Once a colorful, cacophonous warren of lane houses, Shanghai’s old quarter has largely fallen victim to the wrecking ball. But the heart of it, the Yu Garden Bazaar, still remains largely intact. This is your go-to place for Shanghai souvenirs – everything from jade bangles to dragon kites to ornamental chopsticks. It’s also a convenient place to tick a few boxes on your “Must Eat” list. You can sample Shanghai’s signature soup dumplings at Nanxiang Mantou or eat at Lu Bo Lang, where Shanghai's leaders treat foreign dignitaries like Bill Clinton to dinner. Of course, if that sounds too exotic, the place is dotted with familiar Western chains like Starbucks, KFC and McDonald‘s as well. Be sure to take a stroll through the elegant Ming Dynasty-era garden in the center of the bazaar.
Open since 1875, this restaurant is located on the second-floor atrium of a three-star hotel. Be sure to try the eight treasure duck or fried shrimp.
Rich in culinary history, this restaurant uses recipes which fed the last emperor and survived three wars. The food itself is understated and very elegant. Expect to pay handsomely.
