    Blue Frog began as a casual neighborhood eatery on Maoming Lu in the former French Concession. Yet in spite of its meteoric rise, Blue Frog still manages to deliver on the fundamentals: a relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, and, most importantly, great food. It's a winning formula, and, naturally it works perfectly for Blue Frog's newest branch at THE PLACE shopping center in Hongqiao.

    The moment the door opens, the brand new space exudes warmth and comfort with its stylish, contemporary décor. Service staff is all smiles as they welcome you and promptly show you your table. Naturally, they'll start you off with a beverage. We recommend one of Blue Frog's signature cocktails, like the Ms. Shanghai. It's a light, fruity concoction made with a blend of light rum, black currant syrup, triple sec, sweet and sour mix, and just a splash of soda for an extra sparkle. Or for something with a bit more kick, there is the Blue Frog Iced Tea, a classic mix of tequila, vodka, gin, rum, and triple sec topped off with cola. This one will sneak up on you, so consume with care. 



    Food offerings are familiar North American favorites—easy and unfussy, but with the occasional unique twist. The quesadilla platter (RMB 118), for starters, is a must-try. Mexican flour tortillas are filled with mozzarella cheese, grilled chicken, and fragrant Indian-style curried beef and then toasted on the skillet until crisp and golden brown on the outside and gooey on the inside. Of course, they're served with classic accompaniments like fresh tomato salsa, guacamole, and sour cream.

    For the more health-conscious diner there is Blue Frog's take on that classic of French cuisine, the Salad Nicoise. It's a massive plate of crisp, fresh lettuce tossed with sweet, plump cherry tomatoes, tender boiled potatoes, gently blanched green beans, a soft-boiled egg, and shaved Parmesan. It's then finished off with a tangy vinaigrette and seared black pepper-crusted tuna.

    But the cornerstone of the Blue Frog menu is its burger selection. Hamburgers here are big and beefy and are graced with a variety of inventive toppings. There is the all-new "Ma Po Burger", an homage to the fiery cuisine of Sichuan province that is slathered with a spicy sauce and topped with crispy bacon. There is the "Aussie Burger", a towering monument of beef topped with sliced beetroot, a fried egg, dill pickles, bacon, and cheddar cheese. Or there is the BBQ Burger and Avocado, a tender, a beef patty grilled to perfection and smothered in smoky barbecue sauce and a creamy, buttery avocado and leek relish. Each one comes with a hefty helping of French fries. And when you eat at Blue Frog on a Monday night you can get twice the bang for your buck with their wildly popular two-for-one burger deal.
